The History of Blackjack

The first mention of Blackjack in any form can be traced back to some of the more popular casinos in France during the early 1700's. However, it was not until 100 years later that the game of Blackjack truly took off when it was introduced to America by European immigrants.

How to play Blackjack

Blackjack is an easy game to play, but a difficult game to master. It is a game that has made those who know and understand its intricacies lifelong fans of the game. It has also made more than a few players extremely wealthy...

In Blackjack the aim is to beat the dealer without busting. Blackjack players busts when their cards total more than 21. The winner is the person (player or dealer) that finishes closest to or on 21 when the card values are added up. The card values are as follows:

To start the game off the dealer shuffles the decks of cards together and places them in what is called the Shoe. Players must then place their Blackjack bets and are then dealt two cards face up. The dealer also gets 2 cards, one card face up and one face down. Each player must decide to stay or take another card to get closer to 21 without busting. Players who do not bust wait for the dealer to turn over the face down card.

On a card value of 17 or higher the dealer must stay and on 16 or lower the dealer must draw another card. If the dealer matches the highest card total on the table it is called a Push and the hand is replayed. The dealer wins if he has the highest card total at the table.

Important Note: Players who make the total of 21 with the first two cards they are dealt win with a Blackjack.

We've added some Blackjack Tips to this page so as to help new Blackjack players with their game play. This is by no means a comprehensive list and more experienced players will most probably have many more to add to this list of Blackjack Tips.

• Know your game!!! Different online Blackjack games have different rules. Ensure you know EXACTLY what the table rules are and how they work.
• Always keep an eye on how much you are betting! This might sound like common sense, but many new players overextend themselves. NEVER chase a loss! The general rule of thumb is when winning bet slightly more and when losing bet slightly less.
• Always hold at seventeen unless neither you nor the dealer has a low card showing and you are up. This tip is extremely important, but it must be remembered that if a player already has a two or a three, chances of another low card diminish exponentially.
• Only play online Blackjack when you can give the game 100% of your attention. Players need to make the best possible Blackjack game call for each hand.
• Only double down if you have a minimum of one face card and the dealer's hand looks weak. Doubling down might get you a higher payout, but can devastate your pocket if executed incorrectly.
